If you're fond of sand-dunes

This must be one of the most fantastic views one can have while eating dinner? If you're fond of sand-dunes and salty air, quaint little villages here and there, that is.

I must say that even if the food in South Africa tend to be prepared, in general, with quite a bit of fear of spices and sometimes with too much love for mayo, it's still a really nice experience.
Not to mention often ridiculously cheap compared to a Swedish meal out. And the possibility to find a very memorable eating experience in the most unexpected places was pretty high.

The desserts and cakes in South Africa in general are actually one of the best I've ever tasted on holiday. Or ever really. For some reason the fear of spices don't stretch to the desserts there - I'm happy to say. My wasteline might not be equally happy...
How about....

The best Malva pudding (typical ZA-dessert) I got at a funny little restaurant situated in an old apartment in Kenton-on-Sea, La Vinea steakhouse. Like eating in someone's chocking-pink livingroom...

Second best cheesecake ever (second to the bananacream-wonder at the Cheesecake Factory, US) I stumbled over at the roadside modern farmstall The Apple Pie, in Bushman's River. A slice of passionfruit heaven!

Best breakfast fruit-sallad at Schotia Safari's lapa, those strawberries, that pineapple...

The first sip of a new cider favourite - Hunter's gold - at the cosy, friendly restaurant Zest, Knysna.

Best lemon meringue pie (and I don't even like meringue pie!) at the Purple Onion café in Knysna.

Best mashed potatoes and salsa at JJ's in Knysna.

And then the find of the best steak ever, for those who eat dead cows, in an anything-but-modern-looking pub called Celestino's in the heart of Karoo country, in a tiny little town called Prince Albert (totally quaint and so not in Sweden!). And a pretty hefty vegetarian plate too, big enough to last one person for about a week.

Best XXL freshly made pineapple juice in the shabby little hotel of The Montague House, Oudtshoorn.

Or a really inventive vegetarian mushroom dish and top notch service at a B&B Four Oaks Templeton slash restaurant in Montagu.

Best chocolate surprise at Julian's in Bredasdorp.

Or a totally tasty aubergine bake at a local, tinyier than tinier - and one thing I really miss... - delicatessen, called The Daily Deli close to where we lived in Cape Town. An absolutely charming and superfriendly sidewalk cafe tucked away between picturesque Victorian terraced houses in a quiet street in the district of Tamboerskloof.
Or that wonderful, palm tree terraced open-air restaurant, totally summery by the bayside restaurant Sirocco in Kalk Bay, who served a blueberry-cinnamon cheesecake which was pretty close to the passionfruit heaven I mentioned above.
Best tuna steak burger at Beleza, Cape Town on Valentine's day 2007.
Best chocolate cakes - mucking afazing and totally decadent! - at Charly's bakery, Cape Town. Agreed to by Oprah Winfrey and Desmond Tutu I might add.
Best coffee/nut semifreddo at silly overpriced, highly overrated La Perla, Cape Town.
And best, best, best afternoon tea ever - sorry mother England! - at Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town.
And the fruitjuices everywhere, guava, orange, mango, blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, cranberry etc etc - d e l i c i o u s!

And then with the best dinner-view (the Indian Ocean and the sand dunes of Kenton-On-Sea) as above, one of us found the tipsy tart heaven at Homewood, that not being me.
