We got stuck in a traffic jam yesterday, usually it takes about 20-30 minutes to get to Stockholm city by car - yesterday it took nearly two hours... We missed the table reservation and opted for another restaurant, which we haven't been to for ages. A restaurant that some witty food-critic wrote this about;
...not a place for subtle tastes, more the restaurant equivalence of getting a hitchhike with Hells Angels
Even if I don't completely agree with that, I do like the way (s)he put the words!
The restaurant, with more than a certain 50ies ambiance to it, serves only food with garlic. And drinks. And a plentiful list of shots. A place were you always can get more garlic in your dish, but never less. Generous servings and good value for money. The restaurant's name is Bröderna Olsson (The Brothers Olsson/Olsson Bros) Garlic & Shots - and the idea is that when you leave the place you should feel like you've been marinated in garlic...
Just the restaurant to go to before a play, movie, concert where you can generosly share the garlic fumes with others...
We shared a garlic bread starter - not a slice or two, but half a loaf of garlic infested bread landed on the table... - then I had - from a menu that's quite extensive when it comes to vegetarian dishes *extra star* - fried halloumi with noodles in garlic sweet sour sauce with cottagecheese topping. Quite nice, I would have prefered the halloumi to have been grilled, and the noodles were a bit overcooked, but it had a strong and good flavour.
M liked his venturous - not - choice of an Olsson burger.
Dessert - now we've reached the important things!; M went for a garlic chocolate kiss - o'boy, that contained lots and lots of garlic! And would have been much better without...
I had a Amaretto & Garlic cheesecake, quite nice, probably due to the Amaretto taking a bit of the edge off the garlic...
All and all, a very nice meal, friendly staff, unpretentious furnishing and ambiance - well worth a visit!
And if you're in to stuff from the 1950ies you'll definately have to visit the shop Silvetto, very obscurely situated at a backstreet in Stockholm. The shop can only be reached from a sort of undisclosed door with a narrow spiral staircase to the basement.
Once there, you're back in the 1950ies and you have nowhere to run... You can have a haircut, a coffee, listen to music and of course get the perfect gift after browsing around for ages... If it wasn't a figment of my imagination I think I saw an automobile workshop in a corner there too...
And what about the Umbies show last night? Well it was just great!! The guest artist, The Regurgitator Stevie Starr from Scotland *extra star* was ab fab and sort of upstaged the show though... But still, the Umbies were just marvelous too! And I'll be sure to watch out for haircare-product- spams in my e-mail...
