The Dog, The Cat And The Neighbour's Rat

080821 020

I have a brand new doormat, sporting a welcome committee of one dog, one cat and one rat. Which is actually more befitting than one might think, even if my neighbour might not find it quite as am(o)using.

I once wrote about a more than annoying sound emanating from one of my neighbour's house, travelling oh too well through the walls. When I finally had enough, and let them know, it turned out they had attached some kind of electrical device to the wall - not too clever... - in order to discourage rats and mice. Which they claimed to have had problems with. Something I very obviously haven't had any problems with whatsoever. Pets are good for a whole lot of reasons, especially a bunch of cats. Woofed on by dog.

The medium-pitched, completely tiresome sound hasn't been heard since, grateful for that, touch wood, thank you neighbour. And hopefully the only rat roaming this neighbourhood is the welcoming one on my doormat. If he tries to move out of mat, I'm sure my little residents soon will put him back in place.

  1. A very nice mat, dog and cat and rat peacefully together; perhaps the new design for a new world ordre flag! I do not think your animal children incl. the rat would mind.

  3. I love your mat and your neighbours need a mat! (I'm a poet)

  4. I wonder what kind of device that might have been. We used to leave a little thing plugged into a wall socket when we left the cottage. It was supposed to annoy rats and none of us two-legged inhabitants could detect any sound.

  6. That's a brilliant and peaceful idea, Titania, the new world order!

Yes it is indeed, Poppy Q, it always brings a smile to my face and I try not to step on it too much...:)

Ha, ha, thanks, holler, maybe you should stick to your daytime job a wee bit more...;o)

It was probably something similar you used in the cottage, Per, although this one must clearly have been heard by humans too since it was promptly on between 7 am - 23 pm...

Thanks, Paz, I'm so pleased with it!
