I Capture A Castle - The Friday Edition

IMG_0414

Time again for a blend of Swedish castles, in the Stockholm vicinity as well as a bit further south by car. Some revisited, others brand *new*, I'm amazed at the grandeur of some of them, such fairytailish gems *hidden* where least expected in the Swedish landscape ~

Gripsholm, a royal castle that holds the Swedish State's collection of portraits, is situated in the idyllic smalltown Mariefred. Best enjoyed during the summer months.

Nynäs castle and orangery, a pretty manor estate with many picturesque walking paths and an interesting history situated in a large nature reserve area approx 90 km south of Stockholm.

Löfstad Palace, an impressive palace with a wonderful view and a rather cute castle shop, situated outside the city of Norrköping, a couple of hours drive southwest of Stockholm.

Ekenäs, one of the prettiest sights I've ever seen when I glimpsed its shingled renaissance towers through the lurid autumnal foliage. Situated about 200 km south-west of Stockholm outside the city of Linköping.

Rosersberg, a royal palace with a vast garden situated in suburb Upplands-Väsby, where one might encounter red planes in the sky and red minis on wheels.

Steninge, situated relatively close to above Rosersberg - not to mention red cows -, though in suburb Märsta. This is the place where one might spot non-grumpy old men at the Cultural Centre & Café. A place where you can find, amongst many crafts, astonishingly unappealing handblown glass.

Rosendal, a royal palace at Djurgården, situated just behind lovely oasis Rosendals gardens. In the castle gardens one finds the world's largest porphyric artifact, a huge vase manufactured in Älvdalen and then transported by primitive means to Stockholm in the 19th century.

So, which one is your favourite castle from the glimpse of it?

  4. All the castles are beautiful. My favorite Steninge castle because of the red cows; we used to have Herefords.

  5. Thanks for stopping by, Dianne, and sweet commenting on my castle capturing:)

Thanks, webradio, indeed it was a nice walk - as well as a bit for driving.

Thanks, Aaron. Glad you like us Scandinavians, though our countries and lifestyles have their pros as well as cons like any other country:)

Steninge is a pretty one, Titania, I hope to be able to get close and personal with those pretty cows one day. My favourite is Ekenäs for its pretty towers and location.
