Now is the time of Christmas fairs in Sweden, when arts and crafts, food and drink are sold in cities, villages, islands, castles and squares, large and small, all over the country. Personally I rarely buy things at these fairs, but it is kind of nice to stroll around, soak the atmosphere and perhaps have a saffron treat. Information about some of these fairs in and around Stockholm can be found here and here, and for the whole of Sweden here.
These photos with red are from the Advent Sunday fair at lovely Skokloster castle, some miles north of Stockholm city. Alas not in snow shroud this winter, but pretty just the same.
The castle looks like fun, and the dainties look delicious. Such a pretty view in the bottom photo (are those apples?).
ReplyDeleteI rarely purchase anything at Christmas craft fairs but, like you, find it fun to look around. It such a fun time of year.
ReplyDeleteI love all your photos. My favorite is the first one.

I like the last 2nd pic! Food! Yummy! Happy RT.
ReplyDeleteHi Pia K,
ReplyDeleteyou always manage to get the right touch of class to your ruby posts.
The green buck with red strings, never seen that variation before.
The Skokloster castle looks like taken from a fairytale book.
Have a happy Ruby Tuesday.

Your photos are amazing, fit for a travel magazine. There's a sense of vibrance, life an movement in them. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWonderful warm and inviting photos!
ReplyDeleteThe very first picture represents the red in this season quite well: the leaves of the poinsettia set against the red plaid tablecloth.
ReplyDeleteThe castles in Europe are always impressive. We don't have such in the US, being that we are only 232 years old as a country. Skokloster is stunning, even without snow...
Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteI love the first image - that really says Christmas to me. A very simple setting.
Would love to see the castle for real. Like someone mentioned, it looks like a fairytale castle.
Happy Ruby Tuesday!
I spent Christmas in Stockholm some years ago as my closest friend lives there...I love St Lucia and how you celebrate on the 24th instead of the 25th...and the wonderful drink...the name of which escapes me, but I remember heating it on the stove and adding spices to the wine! Delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back- I'm glad to have found you!
Bella :)
Awesome looking castle! But all I can think of when I see a building that big is, "Wow, that must be really EXPENSIVE to heat!" LOL

ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful place!
ReplyDeletethat last shot is great, amazing perspective
and the lighting indoors is so soft and warm
Looks like a wonderful event! That first shot is so lovely and inviting... and the building is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed scrolling down the page and looking at your other lovely pictures. The "triplets" are so sweet and that giant Angel of the North sculpture is extraordinary.
Marvelous shots Pia. I love the castle. I wouldn't want the job of washing all those windows though.
ReplyDeleteSince my Grandma was born in Sweden, I always love to see what your country is like.
Thanks so much for sharing.
The castle looks really beautiful... is it an hotel or something like that now?
ReplyDeleteLeora - thanks for stopping by. Yes they are apples, not sure how they taste though, but they made such a pretty contrast to the trees bare branches.
ReplyDeleteYour EGTG - thanks for visiting & leaving a comment.
Thanks, Paz, that's my favourite too.
Dora - thanks for stopping by, glad you liked to food bit.
Thanks, Felisol, for those very sweet words! I hand't seen a bucket like that before either, I loved it. They even had a amazing looking dog made up that way - sadly not for sale and I'm not very crafty when it comes to such things. Btw, I didn't manage to see more than one post in your blog, let alone leave a comment, maybe it was something temporary...?
My Maracas - thanks for that grand and appreciative comment!
ReplyDeletePeople with Cameras - thanks so much!
Thanks, Ralph, I'm a castle buff myself, I always love to explore their surroundings and gardens, they're so full of ambiance and prettiness. And Skokloster is one of my absolute favourite amongst Swedish castles.
Carletta - thanks for swinging by leaving such a nice comment!
Bella - nice to meet you! "Glögg" is the name of the spicy drink. Welcome back:)
Tink - ha, ha, of all the thoughts...;) It's a museum nowadays, and a rather cold one at that, the heating cost probably isn't as high as one would imagine.
heidikins, thanks, glad to see you again:)
Yen - thanks for a sweet comment!
ReplyDeleteJulie - thanks, yes that little bucket is totally cute.
Thanks, Dianne!
Raven - thanks for your visit and of course a lovely comment:)
Becky and Gary - glad you liked the little tour and welcome back:)
tr3nta - thanks for stopping by, the castle is a museum and very well worth a visit.
It'd be so fun to get married in that castle...I just need to find a guy :)
ReplyDeleteThe food shot is great!
What I love about blogging is to be able to take a stroll in another country and take in the local cuisine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Olga!
ReplyDeleteLinda - that's so true, thanks for stopping by.
