Yes I too am impressed by the craftsmanship that goes into making miniatures (of course), but I like mine to be wearable or at least have a very obvious place in home.
Tin figures don't really fall into that category of Pia-interest, no matter how tiny and well-made they are. M on the other hand is completely fascinated by them. Thus a stop at the Berliner Zinnfiguren shop in Berlin was a must. For him.
He returned with two tiny items, well made, carefully put in cute packages. And yes, the craftsmanship is exquisite, still I have no envy, no yearnings whatsoever for this stuff. Whatever do you do with it? I really can't grasp the idea of glass cabinets and such, where you store fragile things only to look at and dust at times. Never have, never will.
Still, I have to say, that it's very nice to see, in this world of hustle and bustle, mass-produced crappeti crap, there are still people who master such delicate, time-consuming trades. And that there are people fascinated enough to insist on searching for and finding them whenever in a new place.
So agree with your feelings. I am just like that. My decorative stuff is often things I can use. Like old vintage bowls I can use for service or displaying. I admire these tiny things, but I would not know what to do with them. But wow, they are so intricate. Can you imagine making something like that?
