december kittens

107

Sharing my happiness - and hopefully not jinxing it by telling... so let's touch wood on that - over the fact that yes, there will be fluffy kittens arriving in December. Around the time of Lucia, proper little "lussekatter", plush, purring, cuddly, minuscule teddybear kittens (aka British Shorthairs), in many possible colour combinations, dotty, bicolour, torties, blue, red and then some. Oh- and awwness galore...

  2. Photos will be wonderful. I hope all the babies will have forever homes, though.

I'm not sure if you are a registered breeder, not certain if you have problems with cat overpopulation in Sweden--and thus so many being euthanized because there aren't enough homes for them all. But here in Canada there are so many humans who don't spay/neuter and who let their cats roam, so tens of thousands, if not not more, end up being killed every year by animal control facilities or "humane" societies, for want of homes.

I really hope Sweden manages this better than we do!

  3. thank you, erica!

yes, kea, of course i'm a registred breeder (since 1991), you can't register purebreds unless you are. i've always been very strict with the people whom I sell - or not - to.

the sad issue about people not taking care of their cats/pets is very much an issue in Sweden too, with shelters full of unfortunate cats and dogs. when I was active in cat clubs we often used to run neutering campaigns, i imagine they still do. there in lies they real problem I think, that far too many people don't take responsability for their cats and neuter them. yes there are irresponsible breeders too, but the cats that suffers through a harsh life are most often housecats, we really need to enhance the status of the cat as a being overall. whether one has paid for it or not. it's a living being who deserves to be loved and cared for. period.

Mlet it also be known that most of us breeders have or have had both housecats and purebreds and also work with information about good catkeeping. it's essential. one thing i always, always do when i sell kittens is to inform the buyers that one cat is definitely a life enhancer but two is even better and that they should definitely take a look at the local shelter for a companion. and quite a few have done just that.

so apart from giving money to my local shelter since i was a kid I do my other bits for good catkeeping. i don't believe it's contradictive to also have a selective purebred litter once in a while, they don't compete with the shelter cats for forever homes. quite the opposite, they're good ambassadors for cats and good catkeeping.

  7. Congratulations! I love kittens and their later counterparts cats. We got our cat from the local shelter. She is a big, happy, silly house cat. And Bazinga loves to chase her around! The best thing we ever did was get Bazinga for her to play with and tease.
