cahoona coffee, berlin

053

When times are rough it's good to remember that good, carefree times have been and will most certainly come again. In ways not always obvious to neither eye nor mind.

Behind this simple sign hides one of the loveliest little food experiences I had in Berlin. (M and bobbaloos concur.)

Last year we used to regularly drive past this unpretentious and more than rather dull looking drive-in coffee place, near Potsdamer Platz, offering Hawaiian style drinks. I had no inclination to try it out then, but when we kept passing it this year too a visit promptly went on the Berlin to-do-list.

We popped by twice, an extra large Cahoona Special was the last flavour I took with me from Berlin. It is one of the most gloriously perfect and deliciously enchanting coffees I've ever had. Sweet flavours of coconut and spices, generously sprinkled with fresh nutmeg. Pure bliss.

Their fresh smoothies were wonderful, I loved the mango-banana (but then I most always do with that flavour combo), M prefered the red berries. And then we have this little surprise,

a Filli Vanilli (when I spotted that name on the menu I knew I had to have one) donut. Filled with smooth, creamy custard, sweet treat delight - and very much bobbaloo approved.

The environment is obviously of the very less than charming kind, it is a simple drive-through and only two seats and a table by a busy road. But I adore the fact that behind this drab facade hides such a coffee and snacks gem. And imagine living in one of the apartments in the surrounding houses being able to have a coffee on the-go regularly or pop out in your housecoat for a treat on weekend mornings. Envy. I also love the fact that in the most surprising places you can find this, such culinary non-posh delights, yes bliss.

Food - 5/5 (at least the things we tried)
Service - 4/5 (the waitress remembered us from one day to the other, nice gesture...)
Ambiance - 2/5
Value for money - 4/5

  1. Your recommendation might bring them more business than their website. I wouldn't mind stopping there. Now I just need to get to Berlin.

  2. Take a look at Cahoona Coffee on Google. There are lots of options, to look at including Facebook. (Sounds like there may even be Franchises)

  3. That donut looked good. And bobbaloo appproved to boot. And yes, memories of better times helps. I hope your pain is loosening its grip a little. Hugs from afar.
