Eating Out - Lunch & Dinner

080416 005

One quite lovely vegetarian Greek plate can be had for lunch at backstreet Restaurant Asteria, Frejgatan 53, Vasasta'n.

IMG_1557

Even if it's nice indeed to watch a show or concert at Cirkus Djurgården, you really don't have to to be able to enjoy a dinner experience at the adjoined Restaurant Cirkus -

Portobello with vegetables, tofu and pesto. Resourceful vegetarian dish but perhaps not quite as well executed, I do like my tofu to be decently prepared...

080510 009

Although even if this vanilla brulée with passionfruit sauce was delicious in its very own way it was of course nothing like the sinful one...

One of the best ways to round off a nice dinner must be to have a lovely walk, and Djurgården most certainly offers a plethora of perfect paths to stroll...

Audio & Visual

IMG_2160

The shop known by all audiovisually interested warm-blooded men with any sense of self-respect in Stockholm with surroundings - Lars Bengtson Ljud/Video (Audio/Video) at square S:t Eriksplan...

Well, at least soMe constantly tries to convince me of that. Myself I just know that the shop have absolutely no idea how to treat accompanying non-interested-parties - the lack of comfortable seatings as well as snacks are simply appaling.

The Mystery of Little Nils

IMG_1702

The church of Salem and its beautiful, more than well worth a visit, churchyard I wrote a bit about on plenty. The restplace of Lilla Nils (Little Nils) can also be found there. Who was he, Lilla Nils, and how come he forever rests at this place of peace without any further ado than this small, innocent looking tombstone, that still remains a mystery to me...

WCB - The Cat In the Window

IMG_1739

If you're on a little outing to adorable smalltown of Sigtuna, you might be lucky enough to spot this furry one in the window of an antique shop on main street. Yes it's alive and completely at ease having found the perfect place for a leisurely nap. Ah, cats are such inspirational and lovable enjoyers of life, always completely present in the here and now...

eating out - gateau bromma

I'm a bit hesitant to mention this place, at least in a blogpost of its very own, since sometimes it's just best keeping those places of wild strawberries to oneself... But since I'm feeling a touch generous and sharing, here goes -

070706 003
The tiny bakery - café of Gateau Bromma is situated slightly obscurely smack middle of the posh suburb Bromma, and you definitely will enjoy taking the tram Nockebybanan to get there - can be reached by car too, but that's rather boring... - get of at station Ålstensgatan, walk a few hundred metres down to Ålstensgatan 26, open Mon-Fri 7.30-18.30, Sat-Sun 8.00-17.00

070706 005

It's definitely best to visit during the warmer seasons, to sit outside, soaking the atmosphere, enjoying the architecture at this quiet, lush residential area while munching away on some lovely, lovely bread, cakes, sandwiches...

Whatever you fancy, that's most certainly one of those easily obtained, affordable yet highly enjoyable treats in life lived in Stockholm. During the colder seasons, due to the tiny indoor seatings, it's probably wiser to bring the treats home with you instead - the treats can include that lovely sourdough bread from Kringelgården...

And well, beware of the infamous pram mob, they tend to hang at this place too. But with a wee luck it might be reasonably peaceful still.

Whatever treats you opt for - I most certainly recommend the nutty thingies... - they will be enjoyed by fourlegs alike, when you look away.

I Capture A Castle - Again...

I do believe it is time for some more castle spotting, so here comes a wee cavalcade of those -

So, technically this isn't a castle, not even a glimpse of one, just a bit of the garden. Engsholm castle can be seen by invitation and business only and for some odd reason we didn't have one that day. But it looks absolutely adorable at their website, don't you think?

So, do you have a favourite? Or if not any of these, which castle is your favourite one ever? Some of my favourites are mentioned here...

The Bicycle Basket

This is one pretty bicycle basket I got for my mother last Christmas. She had talked about it for ages and I had thought of it as a perfect gift for that long too, but never had the opportunity to get her one. Now I did. And she adores it. So do I actually.

So if I one day decide to get me a brand new bicycle, I will probably get it a cute basket too. One practical yet pretty one, Swedish design, made of plastic, can easily be transformed into a handy shopping basket. From Design House Stockholm, comes in three colours; waste-bin-green, black and white. And for once, black rules.

carrot macaroni gratin

IMG_1453

Just because someone asked nicely, here's the recipe of one of the dishes mentioned before. So simple, so darn tasty, so go for it! Recipe from one of my favourite cookbooks as well as cafés - Ulriksdal Castle Garden Café

recipe for 2

175 g gnocchi-style or other similar pasta
1 yellow onion
4 carrots - or even more
2 tbsp rapeseed oil
2 dl Oatly iMat fraiche
2 tbsp vegetable stock
salt, black pepper
a generous amount of fresh or dried thyme

boil the pasta, pour water off.
chop onion, grate carrots - grated carrots should be at least 6 dl.
fry onion and carrots in oil. mix it with iMat fraiche and vegetable stock.
season with salt, black pepper and thyme.
pour the boiled pasta in the mix and stir.
pour everything in an ovenware and bake in oven for 200C ca 12 minutes.
enjoy!

and yes, the recipe works quite well with beetroots instead of carrots too. or a mix of both.

WCB - LBC Strikes Again

IMG_3348

Hallo there, LBC Viola here! Since I'm being quite true to myself and my purpose - discover and conquer - the undersigned photographer finds it a teensy-weensy bit difficult to capture me as well with the camera as it used to be.

So even if I'm quite perfect in every single black shiny female way I hardly ever stick around at one place long enough to give any photographical pawprint other than the very blurry one.

080711 004

However keeping one close eye on the garden the other day, that petulant person P got a semi-decent picture of me. Yes I am quite striking, if I may say so myself. So striking that I have already influenced the artsy world, and soon will be made into jewellery. It is rather pleasant to know ones importance and purpose in life, don't you think?

Ice Latte, Please

I've said it before, I keep repeating myself over and over, yes I know, but it is worth repeating, that IMHO, the greatest ice latte is to be had at Baresso in Copenhagen. Really. So by the time you read this, I will most probably had my sip of ice latte heaven, my (non) daily (over) dose of caffeine and then some... Slurp.

On The Road Again

IMG_2070

Getting ready for a couple of weeks' trip, the house-cat-loaf doggie-sitters are all prepared, the suitcase is *nearly* packed - on the one hand I aim to narrow down on the outfits, on the other hand it is of course sheer catastrophy (see, I'm all about perspective...) if one lacks the odd garment or two, when it's not possible to do any washing up when away - I think I'm pretty much in control of the situation. Um...

Even if I'm away, things will still hopefully as if by magic appear here in my little part of the blogosphere. I will probably be out of internet reach for most of the time, which is going to be rather nice, I think, hope, adamantly trying to convince myself of... Oh, but I hope, know, we're going to have a great few weeks, as usual, at some of my favourite travel destinations. Relax, experience, wind down, re-charge batteries... So, until my return upon Stockholmian soil -

One Way Of Singin' In The Rain

IMG_3303

Remember all those cute pendants from primoriginals? Here's what became of the one who was singin' in the rain. And since I'm very, very partial to singing in the rain, in many forms and for many reasons, it's a sure keeper for undersigned self.

Summer Day Stockholm - In Black and White

What must be quite apparent by now is that I'm no black-white gal. In general. But there are times when life, answers, opinions are just plain black or white. Yes, mostly, maybe, perhaps, there is a scale of grey, but still sometimes right or wrong are as simple as black and white.

So what was yesterday colours, is today still Stockholm, still summer, but now showing her versatility dressed in black-white -
