farewell april

cowslip on walpurgis

For me April has been an overall good month, a surprising and hard working one, with, I'm grateful to say, more ups than downs. In parts a rather curious month with sprinkles of frustration and I'm still clueless about certain people's behaviour. Or rather a specific someone. Confusing and mixed messages seem to be the signature of some. When clearness has its obvious merits. I wish I was a mind-reader.

But, overall, April has been much enjoyed. Now I'm very much looking forward to May and all the excitement one of the prettiest months of the Scandinavian year will bring. Because I'm sure it will.

Today my always-picking-flowers-mum brought be a tiny bouquet of freshly picked cowslips. I couldn't find a perfect wee bottle or vase for it so I ended up using an empty Innocent smoothie bottle. It looks like it has an unruly hair of cowslips. Yellow in yellow. With yellow bobbaloo. And dandelions. All is yellow. Inspected by little miss redhead. And sister white.

have a frabjous walpurgis night ~

Where did April go, does anyone know?

Here it's been a busy month, unusually cold for this time of the year but quite a lot of sun, and hey presto, suddenly it's time to say goodbye. When I compared to April 30, 2011 the garden and nature are no way near the green grandeur as it was then, but I guess last year was pretty cold too.

Today offered a few hours of warming sun - perfect for clearing the garden, I'm glad we're almost done and ready to fill the pots with pansies and such. Also, first breakfast outdoors, bliss! - then it got incredibly chilly, dark and rainy. So now I'm in no mood to do anything other than have lentil stew for dinner and cuddle up in the sofa with yarn, a cup of tea and something good on TV.

Have a lovely Walpurgis night (Valborgsmässoafton),
Bye bye April, welcome May!

walpurgis night

023

Today is "Valborgsmässoafton" as we say in Sweden, or Walpurgis Night as others might say. Rather a big thing celebrated here, with bonfires and drunkeness. Not really my idea of fun or cup of tea. Not even if I wouldn't suffer from current bolster brain. And all the little animals living in those bonfire piles, hedgehogs and alikes, how many of them will have perished in flames. A feast with bitter aftertaste indeed.

So I stick to my little nearby world of what made me happy today. The discovering of all this bud promise in garden - just a short peek out there, no pottering, far too cold for that. Oh the irony, when the notoriously capricious month of April, which has been surprisingly warm this year, turns into May, then it gets chilly again. Hopefully only briefly -

When the tulips, many of them already out of bloom from one day to the other, oh how quickly nature turns, there will be lilacs,

019

my little cluster of King's meadow lilies (Fritillaria), nothing like the fields but sweet just the same, and the peonies.

027

Oh, there will be a serious feast for the eyes and the olfactory senses in a few weeks. And that, that make me happy on Walpurgis night.

Have a lovely one, enjoy, spend it wisely and kindly ~

happy walpurgis night ~

Officially Sweden celebrates the *arrival* of Spring as in Valborgsmässoafton (Walpurgis Night) - so I wish you a fine one wherever you are.

And of course, a sweet weekend as in the first of May!

under the cherry blossoms

IMG_8194

Time again for the cherry blossoms in annual bloom in Kungsträdgården (King's garden) in Stockholm. It's enchanting, delectable, poetic, the essence of loveliness. And all in pink.
