something old, something new

My old washing machine - it was fairly new when we moved in here, almost 11 years ago - finally gave up. It has been acting up in all sorts of ways for years now, but when the last laundry session made both what was suppose to be clean laundry and the house reek of mould (oh the nastiness!) it was time to say bye bye.

New machine is eco friendly and clever, at least it claims to be, I hope it'll save energy, water, money and time. Obviously no pink dream machine, but shiny, new and rather awesome looking. And it got the bobbaloo stamp of approval (although, really, couldn't you've gotten a fun colour??). Very reasonable price and a campaign with free delivery and installation, plus they took the old, nasty one with them for a peanut fee.

I haven't tried it out yet, I think I'll spend all weekend doing lots of laundry and trying all the programs out. I live a glamorous life. I have to say that the delivery was the most efficient and customer friendly I've come across so far, I didn't have to wait all day, they were to arrive somewhere between 12 - 5 pm, but were to call 30 minutes ahead. They called around 11.15 and arrived at 11.45, everything finished and done at 12. I'm just not used to such friendly efficiency when it comes to deliveries and handymen, such a pleasant surprise.

Another pleasant surprise, which may get in close contact with new washing machine when it's time for laundry, was the wool - silk cardigan with quirky applications (birds, flowers, tweed) I got in the Azores back in 2005. Surprise as in, I knew I had it, but admittedly I've never worn it and was hesitant it would fit. But it did and it was rather lovely. Needless to say I'm no fan of the "haven't worn something for a year, get rid of it"-idea. Rediscover old-ish stuff like this is like getting something new.

Something old,
something new,
something shiny,
something brown.

upcycled seat cushion

upcycled seat cushion

I know I've promised lots of pictures of pink office, but somehow there's always some tweaking that needs doing, improvements, a bit of tidying up, pink office styling etc etc - and the light is never really right. One day there will be light and there will be pictures, even if that day isn't today.

But I give you something small and pink instead, an unexpected detail I've been enjoying a lot since I bought it a few months back - an upcycled seat cushion. Easy to make yourself of course - and I have lots of those charity shop rags left - but it called my name, this crocheted seat (by MFJ Form) since no matter how comfortable a (pink) plastic office chair is it really can be terribly uncomfortable to sit on a warm day without a seat cushion.

And yes, this simple thing, crocheted with recycled rags, have been surprisingly kind to my behind. What a difference an upcycled pink seat cushion can make!

not sure when this happened, but apparently somewhere along the way the loafie and i grew a similar, very similar look (minus liquorice nose and the protruding tongue).

gingerbread dumle

limited winter edition of classic fazer soft toffee. it's a lovely and subtle gingerbread flavour, that goes very well with a soy latte.

bobbaloo approved.

the lumberjack cap

the lumberjack cap

finished this during the us election night watch thus even if it may be a lumberjack cap due to the circumstances concerning its finishing hours i've renamed it the obama cap. happily so.

though when someone said i looked 22 while sporting it it may also be refered to as the miracle cap i suppose. (flattering won't get you everywhere, i am however very grateful for the, in this case, good laugh i got due to it. laughing keeps one young.)

the lumberjack cap

it's not meant to be a cap for me though, but for m. though admittedly it does make him look more than a tad like the village idiot. thus not quite sure which head it will adorn come snow.

be as that may, i'm really pleased about its looks and finish. the first project i made from the birthday book; knitting and crocheting with leftover yarns. tweaked pattern a bit, but overall it worked well.

the lumberjack cap

i used up eight different leftover yarns and how very very nice that was. not having to buy any new yarns but still completing a very nice woolly project.

the lumberjack cap

(even though granted i would love to make more caps like this in other colours like turquoise, orange, bright pink, applegreen etc etc...)

for now, post without links, pictures uploaded via app, but it'll give you an idea of

when in lack of food inspiration

not only has these past close to eight months been a sad lack of all sorts of inspiration and energy - yes there have been exceptions now and then, I know, but to be honest not nearly as much and as often as 'normal'... - for many things in life, i've also lacked inspiration and energy to cook new thing, to vary the dinners. with few exceptions here too.

thus there have basically been three-four different dinners on rotation in this household since march;
roasted root veggies with soy sausage,
lentil stew,
warm potato salad with whatever veggies there's in fridge/freezer with halloumi
and most of all this, veggie wok with noodles and quorn or halloumi.

but when i stuff my face with this for the upteenth time and enjoy it (like one always do with stuff that contains carrots, broccoli and halloumi) the main thought that goes through my mind is that really, there are far worse stuff to be overdosing on, far far worse things to be in a food rut with.

how about you, when you lack inspiration to cook which is/are dish/es
you return to, rely on?

a november friday

with below zero C, sunshine, crisp air, doctor's appointment with no new answers (for the umpteenth time...).

an excellent new café, lunch with bobbaloos, birthday boots walking, bus riding, cardamom drenched fika bread to get you through the weekend, a pretty wellie lost in stockholm.

and a finished cap, lumberjack cap, obama cap or possibly a wolly miracle cap. a cap that will get a post of its own in a few days.

happy weekend ~
