the writing of christmas cards

003

Writing, a bit late as usual, this year's Christmas cards.
Something I will spend some hours still doing.
My only Christmas must really.
Give me a holler if you want one!
Or even better, if you want to swap Christmas cards, that would be delightful.

It will be a quiet week for me, writing, crocheting, knitting, baking.
A floating session scheduled.
A doctor's appointment - please keep fingers crossed for Answers.
(It would be such a relief to finally get that before the end of the year...)
A hairdresser appointment.
Then I'm ready for the weekend, the long weekend.

So, what are your plans for the week?

the mushroom boys

002

:: I'm going to try some of the delicious zucchini (courgette) recipes, you've so kindly left the other day, this weekend. Go green!

:: I heart a good quote, so thank you for leaving a few awesome comments with quotes recently.

:: When you thought things couldn't get worse, they did. These past few weeks of crap have these past couple of days become even worse, the spiral of being demeaned, belittled and taken advantage of is seemingly a neverending one. Yesterday I was suddenly forced to take a decision that was an obvious case of chosing between plague or cholera. After a sleepless night I didn't have to make that decision after all, because the company that I once thought would be a good place to work in made it for me.

Since they didn't think I'd be inspired enough to work 8-17 chained to an office chair daily for a salary that's at least only half of what's appropriate for the position. And during the weeks I've spent there working for free - well, working I would have done if they'd given me proper tasks... - I've apparently also gone down in value since they had the audacity to lower the already appalingly low salary even more. With, I might add, the crazy job office woman's eager help, she had thought it appropriate to mention "I don't think Pia cares much about her salary, she's more interested in working at a place with people she likes, so let's say x amount of money instead"... Yes, really.

She was of course in no position whatsoever to negotiate my salary in any way. I was horrified when I heard that and the fact that the company - a small web company that I now just feel sick thinking about - was more than eager to lower the salary and take complete advantage of my competence without having to pay for it *because she should be happy we so kindly offer someone in her job seeking position a chance*.  It was sickening.

And that they even wonder, and constantly deplore to me, about why the young (cheap labour) salesmen who have left the company recently, one after one - which was the reason the project manager job that was mine for a day then wasn't, simply because there wasn't enough job/projects to lead -, left... If you're not valued enough to get a reasonable salary, for your skills, then there's no reason to be loyal, to stay. In case there aren't any other irrestistible perks and pros. In this case there was not.

In hindsight, they have given me contrarious information and strange answers, there's a distinct lack of focus and ill thought through business plan in constant change (since people left), well, all sorts of (not so minor) stuff that get my warning bells chiming. But initially I prefer to give benefit of the doubt, without ever being naive.

My stupefaction record is on constant repeat. It's such a crazy world, inhabited by crazy, greedy people. Which of course isn't exactly breaking news, but I keep stumbling over too many of them. And especially this past year. Remember, 2011 was to be a good good year. Now I sit here in a puddle of doubt and despair. Thank you life.

:: Now would of course, that is if I could breath and sleep properly again, be a perfect time to get That Book, Those Books written. But for that I would need a sponsor, since bills, strangely enough, don't pay themselves. So, Dream put on hold still.

:: I do not look forward to next week. I've asked to get a new employment officer, because I can't bear having anything more to do with the crazy one. Even if her craziness might have saved me, after having put me there in the first place though, from having to chose between plague or cholera.

But seriously, this having to deal with stupid Swedish bureaucracy instead of being out and about doing a good job somewhere, finally running my own business -

which one isn't allowed to do in the Swedish system without losing the measly benefits one has paid taxes for all those years. Obviously the system, the politicians in this lauded country of Sweden aren't really interested in solving this serious issue that crushes too many people. They do not want people to rule their own lives, to actually earn their own money, to contribute to society and a better world instead of being locked into a degrading, outdated, humiliating system that these days has so much more negative aspects than good ones -

finally being mistress over my own life again, it's mindbogglingly energy- and time-consuming. Such a waste of precious time and energy. Welcome to Sweden, the country of soul crushing activities galore.

Of course, any country inhabited by people and politicians - one could argue that they are two different human species, one in touch with reality the other not - have more or less soul crushing systems in progress. But I'm a prisoner in the Swedish system, therefore I rant about it the best I can, until I find a way out of it, a good way onwards and upwards.

:: Now that I have huffed about the latest looniness, I will go ahead and have a weekend. Trying hard to be mindful in the moment, but also keeping fingers, toes, wisps of hair, eyelashes crossed that next week will be surviveable. I will pick flowers and weather permitted we'll have the annual secret cab-outing with friends (I still haven't written about last year's, bad me...)

wilco and wilby are eagerly watching @kitlane 's shop. seriously they have only just arrived and they want more friends already!

:: To round this distressing, depressing post off on a lighter note; one thing that has brought only goodness and a plethora of magic moments to this year is the discovery of bobbaloos. Also called happiness instigators. They have a tendency to multiply all by themselves - I swear I regularly find them in front of the computer stalking Kit's shop to see if some new niftly looking presumtive Swedish settlers have appeared ready to move over the pond - and yes, a few more have moved in here during the summer. They haven't been properly introduced yet, when I feel lighter in mind there will be such an introduction.

For now I'll just say, thank goodness for mushroom boys that make you smile even in the weariest of times. Hope you'll have a lovely weekend, with or without your own mushroom boys ~

monday short musing

048

Today has just been a crazy busy writing day, writing of not so pleasant things as blog matters, and I do believe I'm all written out - and I'm still not finished for the "day"...

I did have a crocheting-of-granny-squares-for-magical-sleeping-pouches-and-eating-a-surprise-semla-midday-break (which was pretty awesome), but other than that, not much inspiration for anything blogworthy. Some days sadly are like that. But tomorrow, oh tomorrow there will be tale told and photos shown of afternoon tea in a charming milieu. But for now, on this tired Monday just this short musing.

And, for some odd reason, surprise, a Kismet bobbaloo ~

a letter writing swap

157

Whether or not you participated in the lovely letter writing swap of a year ago, the idea of reconnecting with that wonderful lost art of letter writing might tickle you fancy this year. If so, pop over to xo.sorch.ox and tell her how much you want to come along for the letter writing ride. Last day to enter is September 29.

I had so much fun writing and receiving letter, meeting an amazing new blog friend last year, so signed up this year too. Maybe I'll see you there?

on letter writing swap effectuated

IMG_7744

A while back Denise at A Bun Can Dance came up with the brilliant idea of a letter writing swap for interested bloggers. As the lovely artform of a proper handwritten letter seems very close to obliterated in these days of emailing, blogging and instant gratification I thought the initiative was simply irresistable.

I missed (and miss) those years of a close to every day letter writing on pretty stationery to family, friends and penpals all over the world. It was such a delight every time a handwritten letter from some remote corner arrived in the mail, a letter someone had poured a lot of thought and a little piece of their soul into, sealed and sent to me. I hope and think that the recipients regarded my handwritten pages in a similar way.

These days I'm like most people my age group and younger, dependent on emailing - so darn quick and convenient I don't know how we survived without? - and instead of writing long letters filled with thoughts and tribulations to many, blogging for one and all is the one convenient thing that gets me and my many overflowing thoughts going. These days.

But I miss those other times. A lot. Hence I signed up for the letter writing swap. And some days later I met my letter swapping partner. And what a partner it was. Her name was Alex and her blog was Lola Nova, a wonderful, colourful blog buzzing with vibrant pictures and inspiring creativity - what can I say, Denise certainly seems to have a fingerspitzgefühl and eye for matching letter writing people.

We decided that our theme for the letters would be, not surprisingly, our love for crafting and how that came to be. Of course we would also share some edible things from our respective places as well as something handmade by ourselves. Oh this was gong to be so much fun, getting a parcel and a handwritten letter, things just don't get much better than that!

Deciding what to send was reasonable easy - even if I could have gone on and on with this and that and then some - but the actual writing. By hand. On paper. On pretty stationery. Oh my. That was actually so much harder than one would think. I don't particulary like my handwriting these days, it's so not what it used to be. And the facts that one really can't erase and rewind a handwritten, cut and rearrange the handwritten letter seem to be (at least initially) ginormous obstacles.

In due time the letter was written. The obstacles overcome. The parcel sent (care to see some of it, look here). And then one day a parcel arrived from Portland, Oregon to Stockholm, Sweden. And there was joy in reading and unwrapping of gifts. Grand, wonderful gifts like teas with magical names,

a crochet hook holder was just the thing needed actually! As was one of her truly word inviting notebooks (which also can be found in shop).

Needless to say I love the little acorn hidden in the back of the notebook. And the handmade chocolate.

From the reading of the handwritten letter I could see glimpses of a lovely woman on the other side of the big pond, with words, music and love in her heart. With thoughts, kindness and craft in mind. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, I throughly enjoyed the gifts and I wholeheartedly applaude the initiative of a letter writing swap and thus the first step of reclaiming what has been sadly, but hopefully not irrecoverable, lost in these days and age of massproduction and keypad written matters.

the daring scandinavian photographer and the paw approval squad

IMG_7754

As I was feeling better - still is, touch wood - I thought it was prudent to try and make the most of the measly amount of daylight us Northeners get this time of the year. Hence a photo session in garden was called for today. It was a gloomy day - which made the photographing unreasonably tricky, I couldn't believe how dark the camera adamantly told me it was at noon already. Darn, darn - and not only gloomy but windy, oh so windy. And the nasty winds made the reasonable temperatures of around +7 C drop. A lot. And the photo objects didn't want to cooperate.

And as I am notoriously everyday lazy (and proud of it!) when it comes to things like (not) putting on proper clothes when having my wee camera in garden sessions it soon became unbearably cold out there - picture the crazy snivelling, coughing, babbling to herself lady in a worn dressing gown with a magpie's nest on top (my sorry hair these ill days) and a camera in hand, that can just possibly me, the scarecrow on a mission - and yes, there was a short an unexpected moment of hail too.

So I totally blame the weather for not being all pleased with what I managed to capture with camera - because it can certainly not be the one behind the camera, oh no it can't - and I think there'll be a new try on a not so gloomy day (hopefully soon to come).

A few of the things captured was the incredibly sweet and personal package with letter I got from my gifted, multi talented swapping partner in the great letter writing swap. That most splendid of ideas and far, far from shabby see through is something that certainly calls for a grand post of its very own later, but for now - this post can be read as a tentative way back to writing after some horrible all revolving around a sore throat days, poor, poor bunny - I will give you a glimpse of one of those things that rarely disappoint in this residence situated at a place on the globe where autumns and winters are long, rather gloomy, cold and grim;

the ever trustworthy intervention of the paw approval squad ~

These teas with magical sounding names have travelled through forrests, over the ocean from Portland, Oregon to Stockholm, Sweden and I can't wait for the perfect moment to try them (I hope they blossom with milk?). Apart from bearer of magical names they certainly look good in autumn colours and gets the paw plus liquorice nose approval. I take that as a prosperous sign.

the letter writing swap

I've joined the letter writing swap over at "A Bun Can Dance" have you?

Feeling pretty excited about it since I used to be (days long gone sadly) a massive letter writer with penfriends all over the world (as well as writing to friends and relatives nearby). I had a serious case of the writing bug back then, as I do now, but in a different context (and handwritten on pretty, pretty paper).

Apart from emails, postcards (yes, still, very much do those!) and the very occasional, but shortish letter I may rather use blogging as a letter writing substitute. Addressed to the world instead of someone particular. That obviously plays a part in keeping the writing bug in reasonably order.

But still, now and then I miss sending and receiving the handwritten on pretty stationary letter... Do you?
