women's day 2016

The perfect answer to ignorant questions about feminism.

There is sadly still a long way, but this day is for all the brave women who make amazing things to create a better world for us all! And yes feminism is important for everyone, damaging structures and gender traps are bad for women and men alike. We are all people, beings alongside other species on this one planet. Let's never ever forget that.

women's day 2015

words of wisdom

I'm all for a good quote. Obviously. But I'm also quite allergic to screendumps, copy paste, regrams and such. To create original content isn't so darn difficult with all the clever smartphone tools out there these days.

So today, on the International Women's Day -

which is heartbreaking that we still need one, that the human being, societies, cultures and countries haven't come further in 2015. Equal rights for everyone, whether woman, man or other promotes peace, justice and prosperity for ALL. Truly mindboggling and heartbreaking that so many people still hasn't grasped that simple truth. And that there's so much hatred towards women out there. -

I decided to make a very personal photo quote creation (with the After Photo app). With a picture I took on the Isle of Skye some years ago (one of my favourite places on earth) and my very favourite quote.

And I ask you to please, on this day, give some serious thought to one of the most used and abused female beings on this planet, the kind and beautiful cow.

And please be the best, kindest, most compassionate and inspirational change you can possibly be for all earthlings of the female kind and otherwise.

They need and deserve that. Even if they don't walk on two legs.

women's day 2013

two paws, two shoes

Sadly, as with most things in this world, I find that this past year has not shown any progress as far as women's rights ie humans rights go. Instead rather quite the opposite, a seemingly neverending flow of anti-feminism, ungraspable hate, violence and scorn towards women by small-minded, stupid and afraid men.

It never ever cease to amaze me that so many men, people, can see women and feminism as a threat when in fact it's of course common sense and liberating for all, equal rights, equal power and voice, no stale gender stereotypes, for neither women nor men, girls or boys.

We live in a hopeless world. But I'm deeply touched everytime I see someone working towards a change for  a better planet. Me, I'm out of hope for that bigger picture, though I keep doing small kind acts, because kindness in daily life that is something I can still believe in.

Have a kind, heartfelt and caring Women's Day ~

on women's day 2012

027

Just like a year ago one can only ascertain that nothing much has happened, sadly predictably so, as far as gender and any other equalities goes. Women are as much human as any man, but in large parts of the world they're still treated as very less than so.

And feminism's only objective is of course, as usual and still, equal rights, same power, same salary - it's just common sense. Just too bad there's so little of that sense around.

In this household today there were cakes baked by yours truly, one batter, three tins, cakes suitable for all sizes, genders and colours. Because in this little world of ours we do actually believe in equal rights and non-specieism and act as we believe - everyone deserves a piece of their own cake, as always served with a heart.

happy fat tuesday on women's day

IMG_0543

Still very happy about yesterday's wonderful news (of course) - and thrilled over all the kind and touching comments, gosh...

Today though, there's a happy coincidence - or unfortunate if one happens to be a person who feels awkward with the words "fat" and "woman" in the same sentence, myself I couldn't care less, a reasonable amount of fat is essential - with Fat Tuesday and International Women's Day coinciding on this March 8, 2011.

First of all, I find it indeed heartbreaking that in the 21st century gender (and fellow beings) equality hasn't in general come further than this. That there's even a need for a special day to observe women's struggles and achievements, that's tragic. Since every day, every week, every month, every year should of course be equal, for all. No matter gender, no matter species.

Second of all, on a lighter note, I'm very pleased that I will in a little while be feasting on my favourite semla (the Swedish lenten bun ), the Stockholm Super Semla - and no I don't mean the semla amigurumi style, even if I'm rather pleased with those, I mean the cardamom bun, almond paste, whipped cream delight to devour - and yes, there may be whipped cream enough to share with cream loving kitties.

let the eating of the stockholm super semla begin

If I could I would share, yes I would, as things are that's not really doable. But I wish and hope that your day is a good one and that if there's no semla to be seen or found in your vicinity, that you're able to treat yourself to some other special thing today.

on international women's day

Whether the International Women's Day is a day for celebration or not is debatable. The world is after all, after all these years, still so very far from having equal rights and equal opportunities for all no matter gender - or specie for that matter.

I read a tweet that gave food for thought on this day - "Kvinnodagen bör vara en skamdag för oss män. En påminnelse om att vi ännu inte har uppnått jämlikhet. Eller snarare tillåtit jämlikhet." which translates "Women's day should be a shameday for us men. A reminder that we have yet to reach equality. Or rather, allow equality."

Because it is and should be that simple, half the power, the whole salary, it's such a basic and healthy notion and in this day, age, century very much should not be a strange and threatening idea to anyone. Sadly it is. Still.

That said, my day as a woman, human - who hasn't reach her full potential yet, though reasons for that most probably due to other power structures and factors than gender non-equality -have been rather lovely.

There was Spring and noonday thaw in air past Friday. It still is. So Women's Day or not, celebrated in stripes today was. For me and loaf.

IMG_1463

As usual loafie is such a (reasonably) good sport when it comes to stripes. Not sure which one of us that looked most beguiling really.

The broccoli pie I had planned to make turned out really lovely, crispy, chewy, crunchy, fresh and springy all at once.

Then I had an eager (now de-striped) loaf helping me chose the right recipe for dessert - to be honest helper is more fascinated by the fabulous kitchen buffet than the perfect recipe/book, so I went with my own ideas instead. And then I had to sample one of these banana bran muffins (with peanutbutter and sunflowerseeds too) to see if they tasted good enough to serve without shame. Oh yes they did, they certainly did. Garnished four just for fun and spring prettiness. And of course in celebration of a rather pleasant day for the woman undersigned.

March 8th, International Women's Day

This special day, that once was declared by the American socialist party in the beginning of the 1900, is now celebrated globally as a day dedicated to political and human rights and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide.

An important day indeed, a day one might wish would be celebrated each day... As well as the animal- and human rights day...

My own women's day was spent in a slightly less political and social awareness manner. I went on a job interview, which hopefully will lead to something pretty soon.

And after a looong walk all over town (since I'm just too cheap to pay for that darn bus-ticket for such a "short" ride) met a friend for coffee at Tully's (whose coffee I did appreciate so much more years ago when this Seattle-based coffeeshop-chain first opened in Stockholm. Now I don't think it's nearly as good as i once was, unfortunately... But since THE place for seriously fun people-spotting is in a windowseat at Tully's I visit there now and then anyway),

did some utterly nice beautyproduct-shopping (more about that later)

and then home for a really nice romantic movie "The Lake house" (me like, me like a lot!).

And the whole day I was basically, of course, very proud of being a modern, caring, socially aware and really great woman!

If you want to know more about the International Women's Day, go to Wikipedia

How did YOU spent the International Women's Day?

And, for sure, roses for every socially aware, human- and animal right's struggling woman AND man all over the world!!!
