it is the time of hyacinths
This is definitely my favourite scent this time of the year! The scent of hyacinths I adore.
- I am not the least bit interested in the self-imposed musts, shoulds, ridiculous stress, the hyped commercialism and gluttony that is Christmas in the western world. Not that we've ever spent it that way, but unless you're a hermit there's no escape from what's going on around you this time of the year. While the world is burning people still spend a ridiculous amount of time and money overconsuming goods and food this time of the year. I wish we could all spend more time all year around being kinder towards all beings, find happiness in making wise and unselfish decisions instead -
Enchanting and seductive, calming and uplifting at the same time. This is my first hyacinth friend of the season. It adorns my pink office window sill alongside a pot of bright red and pink cut geraniums, the heart plate with miniature pumpkins and the pink loudspeaker. Four things pretty, side by side in perfect harmony.

I also adore hyacinths. And snap on avoiding as much of the Christmas hype as possible. Love and consumption are not synonomous in my world.
I concur with you about Christmas, which we used to call "The Silly Season" back in Australia. I've found it to be a much more low key affair in Sweden, although in the last couple of years I've noticed a change (and not for the better). We try as much as we can to hold on to the spirit of the season and ignore the commercialism around us. I just observe it from afar.
Although I did have to laugh earlier today. I popped into ICA and they were selling semlor! In November? I took a picture and sent it to my husband, who declared that the end of the world must be nigh.
I'm not fond of hyacinth as an indoor plant. I find the scent too overpowering - at least in our shoebox sized apartment. I love the plant itself and have planted out 30 hyacinth in my kolonilott to enjoy in the spring. My plant of choice at this time of year is the amaryllis. It's a joy to watch them grow and bloom.
